When did Free Enterprise become a bad thing? I've seen a couple of threads and countless posts about AR prices being way too high in the classifieds. The stock market fluctuates everyday based on information, actions, reactions and even panics. But there are those on the GS that think that shouldn't apply to gun sales. I don't have a gun listed and prefer to keep mine rather than sell, but I am a fan of the Free Enterprise System and what it means to this country. You see, in a free enterprise system I can price something as HIGH as I like and see if anyone is interested. If nobody is interested, i may consider lowering my price. If I get 50 buyers in 10 minutes for the same item then I probably priced it too low. My point is that the market dictates what an item sales for. Supply v. Demand. That's what our system is based on. Walmart doesn't list their socks for sale for a "fair price", they list their socks for sale for the highest price that the buyers is likely to pay for those socks. Ford trucks may sell below sticker to get them moving, and I remember when the Shelby Mustangs first came back on the market they were selling for $10-20k OVER sticker.... because demand dictated that they could.
The people complaining about the AR prices would FLIP YOUR LID if the US Government decided to tell you what you had to charge for your time. What if you couldn't negotiate for your salary? What if you had to work for the same amount that every man in your area code worked for? What if the government told you what to charge when you sold a gun. What if all guns sold to second party customers had to be sold for $300? Good deal for a pellet gun, not for a Silver Pigeon....is that fair? No. Free enterprise keeps the prices based on what someone is willing to pay.
So, to the seller I say sell your stuff for as much as a buyer is willing to pay for that item. To the buyer I say stop overpaying for something based on a reaction that is likely temporary. But regardless, don't blame folks for working in a free market society and using it to make profits. The free enterprise market is what this country was built on. I believe it's about the only thing that can save us from a government that wants to control everything and be everything to all people.
Merry Christmas
