    I need a skull cleaned.....

Anyone around Pflugerville with beetles? Got the head frozen right now. Can drop it off anytime over the holliday's. I dont need it whitened, just the flesh removed. I have the hide off and some excess meat removed.

    Thx.

    Scrape, boil, dry, clear coat.

    Or fireants.

Never boil just simmer. or you can just put it in a bucket of water for about three weeks and its done.

Been contemplating these options...... Did that recently with a goat skull and was hoping for something with a little quicker turnaround than an ant pile. Not sure I want the boiling mess.

If it has antlers/horns, don't let the boiling water touch them or they will look bad.

Seriously, don't pay for the beetles. Fireants and BigRedAnts are free in Texas.

Ditto on the soaking in water. Beetles take much longer than water.....

My beetles will clean the skull in 24-36 hours. Macerating in a warm bucket will take 2-4 weeks.

If you put a fish tank heater in the bucket it will speed the process up. I would never boil a skull. Maceration would be your best bet if you are patient.

I also prefer to let nature do its work. I've got a big boat head and Kansas buck head in the back yard under a cover right now. I'm in no hurry to get it done so Mother Nature can just take her time!

I found a ripe ant bed and went ahead and put it on there. See what happens. If it dnt work out, I'll cut the horns off and make that antler lamp the wife has been wanting.
