Where to shoot?

Is there a place I can go to shoot different pistols to better see which I like the best?
I'll be looking for a couple for carry purpose.
If you can't think of a place, is there a specific gun you prefer and why?
Just want to make the most educated decision before I buy.
Btw, I'm looking for accuracy (I know I play the biggest role) but low recoil also does. Looking for a smooth shooter.
