    Dealership denies warranty coverage

anyone ever have a dealership tell them their vehicle repair was not covered because they said you failed to maintain the vehicle pursuant to manufacturer specs?

Not personally, but any dealer i am convinced will get all the money they can. I bet if your still under the mileage you can get somewhere with them though.

The dealerships do have that option, usually, at least with Chevrolet when I was working there, they would have to identify a lack of maintenance being the specific cause of failure.
We had one guy who didn't change the oil on his Aveo for 22k miles and seized the engine. It was the direct cause of failure.

The old style mentality that you make reference to is going away. The dealerships now are trying to get past that feeling, letting customers know what is recommended and letting them make their decisions. Focusing more on providing a service of educating customers, knowing they can always go somewhere else.

If the vehicle is out of factory warranty but still under extended warranty, take it to a different dealership than where you bought it. I bought an extended warranty through the dealership I bought my last truck from and was given the run around. Called another dealer, they looked up my warranty and said it was covered. They fixed in two days and got loyal customer in return.

Don't know what manutacturer you're dealing with, but the dealer does not have the last call.

Example: I have an old Jeep Liberty (long out of warranty), diesel, up armored with full skid plates, lift kit, etc. that I dearly love. Keeps having problems with the side glass power windows losing their brains and falling down. Being as how there has never been a recall on the problem, the dealer charges (last time, this is number five, and fairly representative) $386.10. I call customer Support at Chrysler/Jeep, talk to the rep, send them a scanned in copy of the bill via the net, and they send me a check. Just waiting on my latest check. Should be here any day.

Does it apply to your situation? I have no Idear, but worth looking into.

They want to flag it so that certain future claims are not covered under warranty.

What exactly are they saying you failed to maintain?

Well, I can tell you if you changed the geometry by adding a lift over 3 inches they can and have black listed more than one jeep for repairs on powertrain..

Oil. It's a long story but they claim I have not kept up on my oil changes. My response is that I perform my own oil changes and indeed have kept uo with my oil changes. Now it's my word against theirs. They have all the cards and I have none>>

Any experienced tech can look inside the motor(pull valve covers) and tell if the engine has been maintained with out the use of records.

My wife has an 06 Liberty.....I've replaced the rear passenger window motor 4 times in 4 years, and once on the rear drivers side. I do it myself and the part only costs $30. I have raised hell with Chrysler about it and it's a known issue but won't recall it. They have, however, put out an extended warranty on SOME 06's but not all. Guess what? Mine isn't one of the one's covered.
