    Storing ammo

With all this talk of buying ammo and keeping it, how do you store it to keep it good long term? I have shot some ammo that my grandpa had in a box that were 5-10 years old amd half you fire half were duds.

I have painted a few primers with nail polish but would not want to do this a few thousands times.
    Thanks

Order some ammo boxes AKA "dry boxes" to store it in and it should stay good for a long time.

Not a thing. I wonder if something happened to that ammo. I'm still shooting some WWII surplus stuff I found and it RARELY misfires (1-2 out of 500). Keep it dry and you won't have many problems.

As mentioned on a post a year or so back. "If it lives in and where you live it will out live you".

Yep---in the house and not in the shed/garage. Only time I've had problems was with the .22 ammo I kept in the bunkhouse at the lease. Those triple-digit summer temps caused it to fail at about a 50% rate.

A great way to store ammo is the U.S. military green metal ammo can. (see pic) Just keep the ammo dry and cool, no telling how long it will last. Now, the only problem is finding any ammo to put in the can right now......

In a file cabinet in the house. Powder and primers in ammo cans in the house also.

We store our in ammo can and in the gun safe. No problems with aged ammo. I've shot some ammo that my father bought and he passed away 20 years ago.

I have about a dozen of theese. That's where all my ammo is stored. I put it in the tins, then in an old upright freezer I have with the de-moisturizers that you use in your safe. I also keep my reloading powder and primers in the freezer.

I bought a few heavy duty plastic ammo boxes from Academy. About 10 bucks each. They even had a deal where they were selling a bunch of 9mm and .45 with the box.
