I had thought about it, but figure you pay 4k for a car, now figure that you get 30mpg from the car and 15 from your truck that means for every 30 miles you go you save one gallon before you break even for the car vs money you could have been buying fuel with you are going to have to put 30K miles on it. That is a bunch of miles considering you will still have to drive your truck for certain things. Sure you have an extra vehicle but it will be at least a year probably two or three before you see returns on your investment

I had a commuter car but I didnt save any money, cuz I still had to pay insurance on another car. I'll just keep the cash in some kind of fund and let it draw interest.
Get used to it folks. I dont see it gettin any better. Oh, after we hit the $4 mark, everyone will be screaming. The oil companies will drop gas back to $2.95 and everyone will be so happy. And they will still be making record profits. Makes me sick. But, what are ya gonna do about it. Sit at home and pout.
Look at it this way. Say gas is $3.25. If it goes up to $3.75, thats an increase of $0.50 per gallon. At 25 gallons, thats $11.00 more per tank. If you use 5 tanks per month, thats $55 per month more. $55 per month is $660 a year.
Just tryin to make it sound better than it is.

hmmm, I was looking at a small car too........I drive 70miles a day which isnt to bad back and fourth to work. I guess the money I would have to spend to insure the car might as well be diesel in my truck instead, right ? I was looking a at VW Golf, they claim it gets 26mpg on the highway.......bout 6 more miles per gallon than my truck.

First of all I never said that I was keeping my diesel truck and second of all I have not been able to fill it up for 4 months now. Walmart is the only place I have found that the pump will go to $100 before it shuts off. At $100 when the pump shuts off my tank is still not full. My wife has a Honda civic that gets 38 MPG (hard numbers). It is a 4 Cyl 5 Speed and it takes $30 to fill it. It will get about 380 miles to a tank, my truck only gets 320 miles, and I fill up about twice a month. Now lets do the math on that.
diesel truck at least 2 1/2 fill ups (not even filling the tank)... and $250 a month.
Car with 2 fill ups (fills the tank)... $60 a month. Savings of $190 a month.
$4000 / $190 = 1.75 years to pay for it self PLUS i get rid of a $300 a month truck payment. At this point I am making money.
I love my pride but dont need a diesel as bad as I need my income. If i need a diesel I can buy a little older model F250 for another 4K and the two vehicles together will still be quite a bit less than what I am paying for my truck right now.

I have toyed with the idea of parking the F350 and buying a car that gets good gas mileage. The only thing that keeps me from it is the F350 is paid for and I can buy a lot of diesel for the $10K-20K another dependable car would cost plus insurance/maintennace. I have to have a truck for my trailer/Ranger and boat (well I sold my boat but am looking at another one.) ....so if I bought a econo car I would have to keep the 350.
I keep getting angry at gas prices but as I said in an earlier post....I pay it when I think about pushing that heavy sumbuck the 38 miles it takes me to get to work.
