    Hypothetical situation question

Let's say you are hunting whitetail with a group of people. You have a nice buck quartering toward you. You shoot and make a great shot, just in front of the shoulder and on a trajectory that will make a direct hit on vitals. The buck does the "death jump and kick" as your bullet hits it,and runs. It runs in front of another hunter who gut shoots it and it falls over dead. Who should get the deer?

    1. the guy who made the direct hit first shot

    2. the guy who gut-shot a "dead deer walking"

    Thanks

In that scenario the buck is on his death run/walk so with 2 reasonable people....the 1st shooter. Reasonable being the key word.

If it ran far enough to get in front of the other "rifle" hunter ya'll are too close

But 1st blood should prevail if both parties are reasonable

Agreed. You prove blood at your spot. Your deer. No blood til his shot. His deer.

You NEVER know you hit until you find blood.

How do you know which shot is yours?? Thats just an assumption unless you're the only shooter

Let me clarify. You are hunting in a state that only allows shotgun with slugs and you are hunting with drivers and standers, so hunters come within close proximity of each other at the end of the "drive". The first shot was made by a "stander" and the gut-shot by a "driver".

Because the entrance wound is exactly where you thought it would be and the other hunter says the gut-shot is his.

Then the 1st shot if the second admits to a gut shot which isn't immediately fatal
