    Computer guys-Router?

I have a linksys wirless g. I think my neighbors may be sucking my bandwidth. How do I password protect to keep the moochers off my gear? I currently have one computer hardwired and a laptop downstairs running wireless.

configure a WEP key for you wireless. this will prevent anyone from using it unless they know the WEP key.

Do you still have your book? Turn on encryption on both the computers wireless card, and on the router. WEP is a lower end type of security, but most folks can't get past it.

You do have to configure your router, but it's simple. The key is usually a phrase like "I_like_to_post_on_TBH!". Then the router converts it to hex. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Only key is to make it match on both ends.

          Swampa,

Log into your linksys Router 192.168.1.1
The log in is admin, the password should be admin, unless you changed
          the default screen is setup
          Select wireless tab
          Select wireless security
I like wpa personal, but you can also do a wep
          I set mine TKIP
Make up your password and type in the next box
          Save changes
          Your done

          Hope this helps!

The difference in a WPA key is you get to make up a catch phrase or password, a WEP key is usually a list of numbers that is not easy to remember. Just my opinion!

I just screwed something up royally. I can't even access my own internet now. I accidentally hit some reset.

                  Swampa,

oops, sorry to hear of the reset. Once you get back up and running... call Linksys and ask for tech support. They will be able to walk you through it.

Another good way is to set up MAC Address filtering. This is easy to do and your router will block everything that isn't on the list. You just enter the MAC addresses of all the computers that are accessing the network. \

Just google search MAC address filtering and you should come up with some good step by step explanations.

Thanks guys, spent 30 min or so last night with Linksys tech support. The girl helping me was in the Phillapines. Anyway got everything straightened out. Thanks
