    Weird Thing Happened...

A coon was eating corn about 10 yards from my tree stand. When I turned and looked at him, he saw me and stared at me for a few seconds. Then he slowly started making his way to my tree, and climbed up my ladder to my platform that I was standing on. He was just about to reach up to climb in with me when I said, "hey, what are you doing? You're not supposed to be up here. Get down." He protested with a hiss, turned around, and climbed back down. He never spooked. Just went right back to eating corn. This was a wild coon. No houses around. In the Trinity River bottom. Anything like that happen to you?

Maybe you were in his poopin spot. For some reason, coons always like to poop in my tree stands!

Sure it isn't a ringtail? Not doubting you really just I use to have a ringtail or several that use to like to poop in the same pile in my stands and even on the air cleaner in my truck when it sat there undriven for the whole weekend.

curiosity got the best of him. I'm sure he had no idea it was a human up there just something he saw move he wanted to get a better look at.

I have had squirrels come and check me out, never a coon, but I bet it was pretty cool having him that close.

It was cool. I've had coons for pets before, so I know how mean they can get. I was getting nervous thinking about what would happen if he did get in my stand and then realize what I was. That's why I told him to get down. I didn't want to get in a fight with a coon 25ft up in a tree.

I had a coon last weekend climb up in the tripod with me. It woulda been alright if I was AWAKE! That is the worst way to wake up with a ****** off coon at your feet trying to figure out what you are. All I cas say is he got the boot and I had to go wipe myself.

Had a squirrel get close enough to put his front paws on my lower limb once. That was neat.

I'm glad you were able to use logic and reason to convince him to leave and resolve your differences peacefully.

I was in a brush blind I made and that happened to me. He closed from 30 yards to 5 yards, then I ran an arrow through him. KAC

I had a coon a few weekends ago climb a tree about five foot away from the one I was in to get a look at me, too close for bow range and just a little too far to reach out and smack him with an arrow. He got the idea when he got eye level with me and threw my arms up, kinda lunged at him and said boo! I didn't know they could scurry down a tree so fast head first!
