adding a 12 volt power outlet

Hello all, I have a kawasaki 300 bayou 2wd 1999 mod. that i wanted to add a power outlet to. I was wondering if i connect straight to the battery, or do i have to hook up somewhere else? DO i need a wiring diagram? any help would be great! thanks in advance

I've hooked them straight to the battery. Can't recall if there was an inline fuse or not, but it couldn't hurt. I just bought a little kit from the auto parts store, wired and mounted the plug and it worked fine.

    Good luck!!!

I may be wrong, but I think you can hook up to the batt, with pos and neg, with fuse inline on the pos side and you will be OK. JMO

This is what I did on my boat and had no issues.

Open the battery compartment and you'll see all the wiring that powers the bike, one of those wires is the accessories wire (on my honda it was pink/white) the 12 v power outlet has to notches the one in center is the power and the one outside the ground.

Find a good spot on which you can attach the poweroutlet, somewhere close to the front rack could be good, it would be better if you buy a poweroutlet with a plastic cover so rain dust etc can't get into it and drill a hole trhough the fender.

All you need is running a cable from the accessories wire to the center notch of the power outlet and another from the battery negative post to the power oulet outside notch, you may want to add an extra fuse or not is up to you since the accessories wire already should be attached to a fuse.

Don't forget to keep these power outlet cables attached to the wiring that goes all the way from the battery to the bikes' front (head lamps) using the same clamps and some tape so they cannot get twisted or pulled by accident and to use some plastic heat shrink tape in the joints.

          Hope this helps
