    Smart Huge 8 point

Went to the blind Sunday morning and was looking forward to get my first buck of the season (Still trying). I was listening to all the sounds coming from the trees and ground. Heard a baby owl (seen a few times) flying over and even saw the Woodpecker that loves to come around when the feeder goes off. Saw my Friendly squirrel and THEN things got quiet. Nothing around but me and my girl twittling our thumbs. I felt something in my gut and told myself to look around. I look outand to my left is this Huge 8 point buck with his head in the air. I looked at my girl and told her "Don't Move!!" The buck follows this fence line and I get a view of his broad side, but can't take the shot because this archway of cedar. Small branches and limbs but enough to knock my arrow around. Then he walks to this clearing behind the feeder and to the left, but again, green cedar blocks my shot. He tries to walk off so I grunt and grab his attention. He takes a few steps towards usand stops. I grunt again when he drops his head. Another twoo steps closer and then slowly walks to the same path he came from. I decided to try to take the shot through the archway of cedar hoping my arrow won't hit. He never appears in the archway and so I wait......I let my bow back down and after a few more hours, it's time to take a break. We go look and find the tracks to see where he jumped the fence. Talk about frustrating!!!!!!! Went back that evening and he never showed back up. Hope he shows up again!!!!!! Beating myself up, but I know I did the right thing by not wasting a shot. He should return and feel more comfortable. Then I'll get him!

You'll do better by passing on that shot than by taking it. If anything goes wrong you'll just educate him and he'll never be back. Passing on him - he'll be back. You just gotta be there to meet him. A get rid of that cedar archway.

We left the archway but trimmed the cedars to the left where they go into the clearing. Got a good 50 foot side to side now to see that clearing. May go tomorrow and leave archway but cean it so that a shot can pass through.

            what he said
cept for the removal of said archway. I did that at one of my setups then the deer stopped elsewhere. So I trimmed that. Next time the deer stopped at a completely different spot. So I trimmed that. Now my stand is in the only tree in the pasture and it looks like Charlie Browns Christmas tree and I don't see any more deer. But I have a clear shot...

Don't want to trim any more because theres always activity around this feeder. I'm afraid if I do then they will stop coming
