I know this will be tough without a picture, but I am going to try it anyway. I have searched the internet but have not had much luck.
At the lake we were hunting, there were several large groups of these small brown ducks. They would swim away when we would send the dog for downed birds, but they would swim back into the spread. They had a "rust" color on their chest and a bill that looked like a shoveler but much smaller bird and smaller bill. The guys were calling them Mexican ducks and Brant ducks but after looking on the net, they are definitely not.
The crazy part was they never flew of with all the shooting. Like trained decoy ducks.
ANY IDEAS?
