    Oklahoma Land Purchase??

I have a lead on some property in Oklahoma. If it bought it, I would be living in Texas, about 2 hours away from the property.

Seems like someone told me years ago that private property rights are different in Oklahoma than Texas (you can't defend your property), and also that trespassing and theft can be a issue for an absentee owner.

Is there any reason not to move forward with buying some land in OK, or should I be concerned?

It depends on where it is, who your neighbors are, etc. much like any other property...but OK really is a different world.

I own land outside of RATTAN in SE Okla
      As for hill billy.......
It is a little deliverance out that way, but some great people also.
I have an awesome neighbor who watches my place.
Even cut an electric right of way through his property w a tractor .25 mile long - for nothing...... And surprised me by telling me last week.

      I pay $21 a yr for 55 acres in property taxes. ( yes - $21)

I have had zero issues w trespassers and or theft.

I will say, with guys up there the last 4 yrs I have a GUYS GUN weekend about 1-2 times year.
Had some people contact the sheriff two times from down the road due to the GUNS FIRING OFF - sheriff both times sat at the gate, and ran his siren.
When I came up he said he would not cross the gate/fence due to not wanting to trespass.
I told him that he was welcome anytime and that all of us were veterans.
He now cruises by and watches my place every once in a while.

To each his own I always say...

This place would be located between Dallas and OKC. I would be running a few cattle as well as hunting.

Sounds like getting to know local authorities and neighbors may give the best protection. Probably need to get a good insurance policy since there is a house on the place.

Let me know if you need anything. I'm in Purcell and make the trip down South quite often.

Isn't Ok an open carry state? Why would you not be able to defend your property? The folks I know in SE Oklahoma....you wouldn't wanna go snooping around their places uninvited.

I am going to close on my property in OK on the 12th! I have had feeders and other equipment there for the last two months with no issues. Neighbors are the key!
