Gonna try to secure a duck pond today.

On my way to talk to an old farmer and see if he'll let me hunt his 2 ponds. Every time I go by there the place is covered up with ducks. I figure the most he can do is say no but then again there is a 50% chance that he might say yes. If he does say yes then I'd hafta find someone that would let me borrow a few decoys for the weekend but hopefully my GS family can help me out with that. wish me luck guys. Hopefully it works out.

If he says yes let me know. Ive got everything you need and I'm right down the road in Leander. Might even be able to sneak away and get in a hunt with you.

Man I love shooting ducks about as much, maybe more than shooting deer. Let me know if he says yes and i will bring decoys, mojo, duck calls, blind material, and do all the calling for ya. Let you get your limit first before i gas em!!! Consider it an even trade!

Can you hunt them on the evening time? Tonight would be a good night to do it. That cold front is coming in and might push some birds our way.

Yeah, you can hunt them any time during the day. What time have you noticed them there? Be very careful on how often you hunt them. Finding a place that constantly holds ducks are few and far in between. Especially private. I have a place like this one that I hunt and i never hunt it more than once a week. If you do then you will blow the birds out for the rest of the year.

It doesn't matter what time I go by there, there are ALWAYS birds there. I was just wondering when the best time to hunt them was. I went duck hunting with my grandad and dad when I was 5 ( that was 25 years ago) and haven't been since so this is all new to me. I'm green when it comes to huntin quackers. Have no clue what I'm doin but gotta start somewhere and can't find anyone to teach me so I'm gonna do it solo.

Make sure you say something about bringing a friend with decoys etc. if that is the route you go.
You may find he will want to go with you, want a duck or two, or it may not work out ...this time, who knows? If you don't ask you don't get.

                    Good luck

I fully plan on letting him know that I would be bringing someone with me with calls and decoys etc. I'm gonna tell him the gods honest truth about the whole deal so there are no surprises. That way I stay on his good side and hopefully get to hunt his pond more than once.

Well I think I struck out at the 3 ponds I went to check on. It's not looking good but I think I did find access to the pedernales river in Johnson city. Anyone ever hunt that river? Any good?

Should have offered to clean and give him all the ducks.

Man it sure is frustrating to work up the nerve to ask someone and then be told no. I knew there was a good chance they would say no but a guy can hope right. Guess ill keep at it till I find a spot to go kill some ducks for the first time.

They had someone come out there and disobey all their rules and it put a bad taste in their mouths for people hunting on their land. I left my number and told them I'd be respectful of their property and their wishes. We'll see I guess.
