I have not seen them up close. WHat about the slot and the screw head? Could it be an issue in preventing opening?

your opinion doesnt count Chris, you could have killed those deer with a field tip!

I started shooting them this year and I shot a mature South Texas buck through the shoulder with it and passed through he went 30 yards and was dead, very good blood trail too!! I highly recommend them!!!

Far from it bud, these things definitely help get the job done!
