257 Roberts is a lot less case and speeds of around 3000 fps at 100 grs. 257 Wealtherby is faster and a lot more case and powder the 257 roberts is closer but still under the 25-06 and the weatherby is bigger that the 25-06

The .257 Wby will push a 100gr bullet at 3,500 - 3,600 fps. .257 Roberts will be about 2,800 - 2,900 fps. That results in about 1,000 foot pounds more energy for the Weatherby. Pretty significant difference in speed and KE.

Hunting senderos speed is your friend, with a 257wby if you shoot a deer for 400yds but he's really 500yds you still hit the deer.

A box of 257W will cost you anywhere from $40-$75 a box of 20.

            257R about $20-$35 a box.

True, unless you reload. Then the cost is close to the same (a little more powder for the Weatherby).

True. I use to reload for my 257W and it took a lot of powder

Didn't even mention that based on a hunch OP did not reload

When I was contemplating which caliber to get----the .25-06 or the .257 Wby, (I got the Wby) I was told by the gun savants here that the .257 Wby was actually a .25-06 on steroids and they were right. No regrets, now I'm contemplating the .257 Roberts or the 7mm-08 so I'm following this thread.

I have a brand new unfired .257 Roberts I got from a client. Now I'm thinking I may need to go shoot it. Not much of a rifle shooter but would like to see how it shoots.

I own and few .257 Roberts and have no complanints. It kills everything I need to shoot as far as I want to shoot them. The .257 wby is hopped-up. But it comes down to which one you perfer to shoot and are more comfortable with. I started both my kids off on the .257 Roberts and it kills the animals in their tracks.
