I just got the Vivint system installed and I love it. I can lock doors, turn on lights, watch my camera, all from my cell phone. It is a little expensive $68 a month but I really like being able to control the house from my phone.

HOW TO INSTALL BUBBA's HOME SECURITY SYSTEM .

1. Go to a secondhand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine.
3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Bertha, Duke, Slim, & I went for more ammo. Be back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls; they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up bad. I don't think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house.

Is the free system a promotion for smith Thompson? Last time I checked they wanted $350 for the system installed. I would love to drop Adt

Do not go with ADT or brinks. I've been in the buisness since I was 19 and have heard way too many horror stories. I'd go with a local company with a monitoring station actually in the USA.

We have Protection One with a wireless monitored system. It also has a mobile app where we can check system status and arm/disarm the alarm. You can also do it via the internet.

It is pretty expensive though at $48 month.

I just looked up Smith Thompson and it looks good but I did not see where you could arm/disarm the alarm remotely. Is that something they offer?

I've been thinking about shopping a new alarm system to save money but prefer not to give up the convenience of the mobile app.

After you do your research and have a monitored alarm system installed, do not forget to contact your homeowners insurance company and advise them that you have had a monitored system installed. You might need a note from the alarm company confirming, your insurance company should reduce your cost on your insurance a decent amount because of the alarm system install, contact your Ins. Co., they can tell you more, but you will save money on your insurance because of the alarm system.

smith thompson gives you a free system and a free month when you pay in advance for a year.

You the man. $15/month even with wireless monitoring. I can recount an ADT nightmare story if you want also. I had them remove theirs so Smith Thompson could install one.

No, but that's not worth $30/month for me. They do offer the key fobs which work great for disarming as you pull into driveway etc. And they don't cost a monthly fee.
