I use my .243 with 55 or 58 gr ammo. Shoots in the 3900fps+ range, flatter than most rounds (even the 22-250), and more energy. Hard to beat foxpro.

This gives you an great opprotunity to purchase an AR-15 or M-4 before that right is taken away. I use my M-4 with a Foxpro and I also carry a shotgun for close shots.

sorry to see the have legalized crack cocaine. your comparing apples to oranges here in bullet weight. the heaviest you can stablize in a normal twist barrel in the .22-250 is about 60 grains and it slows down at that weight. get back into the sweet spot for the .22-250 around 40 grains and the 250 will do work on the .243 in terms of pure velocity.

Not sure why but after thinking about it, I really don't think I want an AR-style gun. I guess I'm just old fashioned, but I like a good ol' bolt action.

All the type of weapons from above. But I use hand calls usually cottontail and a turkey feather tied to a stick in the ground works great.

At least I'm comparing apples to red oragnes, or orange apples to oragnes... lol

                    45 gr 22-250 @ about 4000 fps dropping 40 inches at 500, 212 ft lbs energy
                    35 gr 22-250 @ about 4300 fps dropping 28 inches at 500, 278 ft lbs enery
                    55 gr 243 @ about 3900 fps dropping 27 inches at 500, 562 ft lbs energy

I'll keep my 2x energy and flatter shot.

Question about the Foxpros.... I'm looking at the Foxpro Spitfire and the Foxpro Wildfire II right now (trying to stay in the $200 range)... Which (if either) should I go with? Also, do these come preloaded with the calls or do I bet separate discs or whatever for what I want?

Then go with a 700 Remington in a 22-250 and it will likely become your favorite rifle in your arsenal. Have shot a couple hundred or more coyotes with 22-250 and love it. Started out with a model 788 Remington and upgraded to a 700 BDL and loved it even more. And honestly my 22-250 has disposed of deer much better than my 25-06. I realize that may be due to the wrong bullet choice on the 25-06 but the point is the 22-250 is the cat's $&@!

Love my 22-250. Flat out shoots and is fun too! Has piled up several animals and is very accurate!

I like the small .22 calibers just fine but love to shoot my .17hmr. Inexpensive to get into cheap ammo and fun to
Shoot. Does a number on varmits too.

You have two times the energy because of payload. The .243 is a more versatile cartridge and is a fine medium size game rig. The 250 however is a pure varmint round even though it has enjoyed moderate success in the deer hunting world. Your original statement was dealing with velocity and was incorrect. I will not argue that the .243 has more energy but shooting a bullet that light in that given chamber is goofy. Varmint bullets are designed to fragment on impact thus negating any argument pertaining to down range energy.
We can get those types of speeds out of a .30-378 as well shooting a light bullet but again what's the point. Cartridge performance shoul be gaged on the sweet spot for payload, downsizing payload to get extreme velocity is poppycock.

It depends on the type of varment hunting: If you want to go Prarie Dog Hunting where you will go through 1000 rounds a day than a 22-250, 204...etc would be costly. Any AR platform gives you various options with set ups...
