    Stock Show..............poultry

I'm going to ask the big NONO question.

What do you feed? How do you do at the shows?

We feed Producers out of Bryan , but its a long haul down there for us and we are looking at making a change.

4 years of GC or RC.

All I know is we feed what we "thought" was the best stuff our first year showing last year. One group of kids from a local school showed up with "Barry Bonds" sized birds, and blew all the other kids out of the water. No telling what they were feeding their birds.

We feed honor show feed, supplements for leg strength and keep birds stirred as much as possible.

        What did you feed?

We kinda blew the show up when we started also. We had no experience with birds and just did a lot of research, but like most stock show feed programs people gourd it like was the instructions to make a fusion bomb. We took GC and RC that year.

I raised broilers my senior year of HS and won Grand Champion at the collin county 4-H and FFA show. What I fed was a series of Purina Turkey starter and Purina Broiler feed. Along with mixtures of B-12 in the water and feed as well as on the last two weeks where most of mine put their bulk on.

If I remember correctly we only had 7 or 8 weeks to grow them. I had a specific feed/supplement schedule for each week that I ended up giving to my Ag Director to help the other kids after me. PM me if you want and I can do my best to remember the exact formulas

Yessir we are, last year was the first year our FFA group had ever shown birds so it was a new experience for the school. He actually did pretty well, but failed to make show by a couple of places. But we were not even close to the group that took all the awards.

We raise chickens, but I built a new coop just for the show birds last year. It's got plenty of room, and and has a fresh water supply. We have one supplement we were told we could buy if we wanted to, but we stuck with the recommended feeding and temp charts he was provided. Just need to figure out what we can do better this year. He really enjoyed doing it, but was bummed when we realized we were nowhere near the top groups. Kinda frustrating

Lights on, stir them as much as possible, leave radio on
                          Fresh Water
Never let them run out of feed
                          Turn bedding regularly

Oh for the love of broilers.... ha I did them for 4 years in hs. made for a long 8 weeks.
We started the chicks off with producer pride turkey starter to jump start their growth and then switched to the chicken finisher after week 4 i believe. Make sure to feed pellets as well instead of crumbles. I think starting week 4 we would start feeding them a special mash of cornmeal and butter to get them to kind of respark their interest in eating. Wed switch out recipes every week as to keep them interested. Radio and light are also important. Try and change the station to see which they respond too, i found mine usually liked that Mexican music during the hot weather months your going to have to keep a fan on them to keep the air circulating and to make sure they dont die from the heat. I always kept the pen around 65-70 and they seemed to respond best to it. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

                              Showing steers and heifers here.
Make the haul to Bryan every 5-6 weeks to pick up PRODUCERS. For the slick sheer steers.
FT. worth steer calf is on Hi-Pro
FT. Worth heifer calf is on Purina honor show chow.

Overall I think Hi-Pro is the best but it will cost ya $$$$

Idk if the carry chicken feed in either of those last two brands.
But I would try Jacoby Feeds.
Heard of them in lambs and goats and apparently there pretty darn good
