Skeeter I just went through this with my friend. We finally found it like the Vortex bullets. I think it was the 100 grain. Try finding someone near you that has a 243 that has been through this before and see if they have ammunition.

It took me alot of money to figure out my kids 30-06. The 270 shoots the Vortex great. Before you go through all that have the crown checked.

Winchester supreme silver tip 115g is the factory ammo my .243 likes, but it shoots flat out amazing with hand loads.

Well then mail me those federal blue box 243... My h&r LOVES them.

          I don't have a 243 in encore though.

Fiocchi makes a 70 gr 243 for around 20 bucks a box. I have good luck with their 223 ammo.

95 grain Winchester supreme silver tips make nice little clover leafs out of my encore.
55 grain silver tips shoot good too and at over 4,000 fps they will smoke a crow.
              Good luck.

best thing to do is hand load rounds for it. You could also lap the barrel, all of my encore barrels would shoot ragged holes at 100 yards

I'm no expert, but I have noticed some POI changes on several occasions with my Encore and Contender. I've played around with them and have come to the conclusion that the Bullberry and like hanger bar systems do wonders. If I bag mine towards the end of the fore end then the groups open up and if I bag them as close to the action as possible they shoot lights out. Just passing this in hopes that it helps you, but you may very well just need to find the right bullet. I've had great luck in several 243s with the 100 grain blue box cheap stuff when I couldn't get premium bullets to shoot good. I'd definately go down to 80 grains Barnes or soft points and see what happens. Keep us posted and good luck.

x2, the encore contenders and lever guns are picky about how they are bagged

I hasn't a tc encore pro hunter and I have shot every brand of bullet through it. It liked the Remington core lock the best but It would only hold 1" group...

I ended up going with custom reloads..

Both! I shoot Hornady in all my rifles. Cheapest I have found is at Tomball Pawn.

The last .243 I bought for the boys LOVES the cheap Remington 100-gr Core Lokt, but won't shoot the high dollar stuff well at all. It's a Mossberg 100-ATR, and I tried four different brands before I pulled out the Core Lokt from my grandfather's cabinet. I don't think the spike I killed with it knew he'd been hit with an inexpensive round, he just hit the ground like he'd been pounded in the head with a sledge hammer. Good Luck with that, Encores seem to be finnicky about ammo....at least mine have been.

Skeeter, when I had a bunch of Encores, I had to experiment with several loads. I handload so it wasn't too bad. I had the 28".243 ProHunter barrel and it really liked the 85 TSX. It was MOA all day long with that load. Now that was a handload and not factory. When I go to range its usually for a couple of hours for trigger time, and its nothing to send 30-40 rounds down range.
