I got a chance to go hunt tonight out of my favorite little short tripod. I was watching a young buck out in front of me, when I started hearing something creep up behind me. From the sounds of the steps on the leaves, I could tell it was smaller than a deer, and it was slowly sneaking towards me. After a few seconds, I could tell it was directly under my stand. I slowly turned my head, just in time to see a huge fox with his front paws propped up on the bottom rung of the ladder on my tripod. He was looking straight up at me. We stared for a split second into each others eyes, and then he tore off. It was one of the coolest animal encounters I've ever had in the woods.

We kept having chickens disappear. I was burning trash in a burn barrel 2 yards from a wire utility fence. I felt something was creeping up and watching me. I glanced over my shoulder and the fox was 2-3 yards on the other side of the fence. I stood still and he sniffed around in the air. I think he was trying to find more chickens. After a few minutes he turned around and walked off.
The only time I have been closer to wildlife is feeding deer out of our hands at Canyon Lake.
