Strange Experience With A Fox Tonight

I got a chance to go hunt tonight out of my favorite little short tripod. I was watching a young buck out in front of me, when I started hearing something creep up behind me. From the sounds of the steps on the leaves, I could tell it was smaller than a deer, and it was slowly sneaking towards me. After a few seconds, I could tell it was directly under my stand. I slowly turned my head, just in time to see a huge fox with his front paws propped up on the bottom rung of the ladder on my tripod. He was looking straight up at me. We stared for a split second into each others eyes, and then he tore off. It was one of the coolest animal encounters I've ever had in the woods.

Had nearly the same exact thing happen to me at our old place in Junction, it was so directly underneath me looking straight up, that I could not have shot even if I wanted to.

He probably just wanted to touch your beard.

Sounds like a cool experience! That's what I love about being in the woods... You never know what cool encounters you might have with the critters from day to day.

We kept having chickens disappear. I was burning trash in a burn barrel 2 yards from a wire utility fence. I felt something was creeping up and watching me. I glanced over my shoulder and the fox was 2-3 yards on the other side of the fence. I stood still and he sniffed around in the air. I think he was trying to find more chickens. After a few minutes he turned around and walked off.

The only time I have been closer to wildlife is feeding deer out of our hands at Canyon Lake.

A few years ago I was field dressing a doe and had a grey fox run up and start trying to get at the doe I ran it off three times before it finally did leave.

Same thing happened to me with a yote, those eyes seem to look right pass mine like he was seeing my thoughts... a strange feeling after that

Cool. Had a similar experience; sat down on a rock in the open and watched my feeder as the sun went down. Had a small grey fox walk up to me about 10 feet away. I couldn’t blast that guy either. Just kept staring me. Didn’t leave till I got up.
