Need help from the experience tbh carpenter/handyman/builders

My house has shifted a lot from the lack of rain. My French doors barely lock. Which worries me like crazy! How do I adjust these doors to align them back up? Shims between jam and frame of door? There is no room to adjust the door hinges. I already notched out the door to adjust the strike plate to get me by. But there are pretty big gaps from the door out of whack. Need some help fast!!! Feel very vulnerable with very little keeping door closed.

You probably need to have the foundation or pier and beam fixed before you do anything. You could also take off the trim and see if you have any room to shim out the entire frame either sideways or up and down.

That would be my suggestion. Don't know what it costs, but can't be overly expensive as I've had two neighbors that had it done and they are both retired military so are not financially flush. Comfortable, but not flush. I know, I are one.

youve already made all the quick fixes that can be done in my opinion. next step would be to remove interior and exterior door casing trim, use a sawzall to cut the nails that secure the door frame to the studs, and rehang the door square and plumb. much easier with a helper. when you get it reset, install a better.longer strike plate for safety

Nothing is quick. Like putting a bandaid on cancer. Fix the foundation issues, then get the door fixed. Foundations just don't automatically relevel if and when we do get rain.

My dad use to work at a foundation company. He would probablly say to put a soaker hose around the house. Texas is pretty much a clay bottom. Thats why all houses in Texas have problems. Its not a permanent fix to the damage thats already taken place but its a start.

At the top of the door that is drooping, remove a couple of the small screws and replace with 3-4" screws. They will often reach the studs and suck the door in and raise it up. Maybe not enough in your case but my trim carpenter uses this trick from time to time.

If you use long screws in top hinge of left door will pull it up but be careful you dont hinge bind the door. I think I would remove and rehang the doors. I am a finish carpenter by trade. It would be the best fix.
