    Question for the technology crowd

First let me start by saying, turning this puter on and typing on here have been great advances for me in the passed few years!
OK here is what I want to know. I have seen these portable dish/solar things that people use with thier RV's and such to get TV reception while they are camping. Is there such a setup like this that you can use to get an internet connection in a remote area. It will have to come off a satellite because there is no cellphone reception in this area.
If so what do I need/have to have to get this done?

    Thanks!

I suggest calling your satellite provider and asking them if it is even possible with a remote dish. The service you get at your house would be what you use at the ranch, so if it iWork's there in theory it should work at the ranch too.

And there are a ton of remote dish options available.

Thanks for your answer. But I don't have satellite service anywhere. lol
What I'm trying to set up is a way to update a website on a daily basis from a remote area. A big step for a techno-illiterate such as myself!!

At the ranch I work for we can't get anything but satellite Internet. We use Wild Blue. It's not great but it's a heck of a lot better than no Internet. You can get Internet anywhere you have an uninstructed view of the southern sky.

THanks Horitexan. This will be at a base camp in the middle of nowhere. lol Sometimes even satellite phones will not work. But most of the time they do, so should be able to get a satelite signal on a fairly regular basis.

                Thanks for the help guys.

I use Hughes Net at my house and it works well. It should work anywhere as long as the dish has a clear view south.

Back in the day, sat Internet used the sat signal for down only, you needed a phone line for data up. Not sure if this is still the case. If you can now use a sat signal for up and down, that's a great improvement in the technology.

It is available but really expensive. It also depends on the footprint of the satellite that is being used for the internet. If you are not in the footprint then it will be a no go.
