And or does anyone know if you can find a vehicle history by owner name for something that was sold probably 30+ years ago, then I would have the vin and could figure out the rest

History searches usually start with the vin number of the vehicle. You'll probably need to know that to get a very far I would think.

If yu can make out the license plate number you might be able to find the registration info from the old county records

I know he had a ham radio operators plate and I think it might have been on the truck before he sold it, oddly, I still have three of those plates...hmmmm

                    I disagree.

Look at the size of the rectangles on the grill insert. Thatsa 70!

The Ranger badge is usually on the glovebox door as well.

With the big block and full float rear axle, it should be what they labeled a "Camper Special" (also came with a 4 core radiator and big mirrors)

The Ranger package is what is today equivalent to a XLT or Lariat, it's the zooty model. Deluxe options like AC, 8 track player (AM & FM radio), automatic transmission (should be a C6), power steering, and an Autolite 4100 caruburetor. If I remember correctly, it was only the Ranger that had the toolbox in the bed.

As for the search, you'll need to find the VIN if you want to find the truck. There are services out there that will search all the states for a particular VIN. I've seen a few success stories where folks have found their first car, or dads old truck, etc.

Good luck, those are great old trucks.

Back then, there were several options/packages. Some....I aint never heard of.

                          Ranger
                          Sport Custom
                          Camper Special
                          Explorer Special
                          Contractor Special
                          Farm & Ranch Special
                          Heavy-Duty Special

                          All, available from 67-72.

I still think that the grill says itsa 70!

My papaw had a 71 F250 Sport Custom.

Ford had them on their CAMPER SPECIAL TRUCKS

Looks like a 1970 with the 390 CI engine - Camper Specials all had the toolbox in front of the right rear tire. They stopped offering this option due to leaks..water intrusion.

Ford had this option back in 1964 too! Not sure if that was their first year to offer this option? Chevy copied the same deal with some of their trucks as well..but Chevy had tool boxes on both sides of the bed with some having dual boxes, one in front and one behind the left rear tire.

This truck may have had an optional second gas tank too?
