    Slugs.

For quite a while I've shot slugs through my Remington 870. Not too long ago I talked to someone about shooting pigs with slugs and he said that you aren't supposed to shoot slugs out of a full choke shotgun. Well, mine's full choke and I haven't had problems yet. Should I continue or is there a problem here?

I've always heard that too about full choke, heard Mod to open is best.

I've always heard don't shoot slugs or steel shot through a fixed full choke barrel. Supposedly it will mess the choke up due to the choke being so tight and slugs and steel shot not having the "give" that lead shot has. I don't know if it's true or just another myth, but I've always been scared to do it in my full choke shotgun.

You`ll ended up ruining your shotgun`s barrel man, if your shotgun does not have a special slug barrel (those with spirals inside like rifle barrels) then take down the full choke and use the shotgun without any choke at all

Won't hurt the barrel a bit--if they are Forster slugs--pure lead, and soft enough to swage down without damage. The one thing that might be hurt is accuracy. Can't say about sabot rounds though--

I guess you are talking about rifled/ 1 oz. foster slugs out of a smooth bore barrel. A lot of people have concerns about pressure with full chokes and slugs. I have not seen any warnings on ammo boxes. But I was taught not to shoot them unless you could fit a dime through the choke. I love shooting them. On YouTube lookup shotgun slugfest this guy hickok45 has some cool slug videos.

Actually, that would be a good excuse to get a new shotgun - "Hey honey, I've got to get a new shotgun so I can shoot slugs at pigs" . . .

Get yourself a rifled barrel and shoot sabots....much more accurate and not that expensive to upgrade

I am a die-hard slug gunner. I shoot a Mossberg 835 UltiMag, 24 inch back-bored rifled barrel, and 3 inch remmy accu-tips. Holds 3-5 groups all day at 200 yards. Tighter if you strap it in a lead sled (I strongly recommended )

There is nothing on the face of this earth you cannot kill with a well-placed slug.

The foster-style slugs are good up to 50-75 yards open sights. Get a rifled choke tube and you can squeeze a little more distant out of it.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll continue to shoot the slugs as I have in the past. With nothing but the BB on the end of the barrel I'm good at least to 60 yards and I've seen the damage that slug does to a pig. I may get the opportunity to try it on a deer next weekend, if I can't get on into bow range.
