    Boning knife

    Can some please recommend a good quality boning knife? I have a filet knife that I like using but it does not hold an edge worth a darn. I tried and tried to get a good edge on it again and I could not no matter what I tried.

        There are some different ones to pick from.. When I was in the meat cutting business my knife of choice was a 5"semu flex curve boning knife. Victronix and Mundial make some good ones.

          The white gripe handled knife from SAMs.

          Basically, the generic knives you would see in a restaurant kitchen.

          I love mine. Hold and edge and easy clean up.

              Most processing plants sell their used boning knives for cheap. Stop at one and ask. I bought a few over 20 years ago and still in use

                I bought a Knives of Alaska boning knife a few years ago that is the best I have ever used, easy to sharpen and holds a edge very well. I think it is the Jaeger (sp?) model.

                  Boned out a deer late october with mine and didn't break a blade. Why would it break? I ain't hacking at the bone, just cutting the meat off of it and it goes through meat like butter.

                    I've been using Griptex knives for the past 3 or 4 years and they hold up great. The ones I use have boned out hundreds of deer and are still being used. If you are going to cut meat buy a knife designed for the job.

                      So your saying a Pro would not use a Havalon Scalpel for boning? Dang, I thought the way people carry on about them Havalon and Yeti coolers were going to put everyone else out of business.

                        Dexter - Russell 6" boning knife.....

                        Quality knife, great handle, sharpens easily and won't break the bank. Been using them for years...

                            Don't nobody kill me for bineing an ignorant a..., but imo it's hard to beat a good old classic Mora. I have several. Had more, but can't get them away from the live in Chinese chef/maid.wife. She tends to get violent when I try. Anyhow here's a link. Don't be fooled by the price, they are top notch knives. I've got knives that cost 20, 30 times as much that are not any better (I collect thie things, have well over 200 at present). I digress, heres the link Just pleae don't let the price or the sheath (if the knife comes with one) deter you. Nobody ever bought a Mora for the sheath. Well once you get one of them plastic things and play with it a bit you relize what a wonderful piece of engineering it is. It seems the swedes don't don't much unless it has a purpose. If you getting the idea I'm high on Mora knoves, you got it.
