Don't panic, or maybe do panic. TBH doesn't really have anything to do with it. Almost all of the search engines (I want to say all, but just in case) have web "bots" that wander about the web gathering information about who, what, where, when, etc. The only way I know of to avoid them is to put your computer in your pocket. If there is something you woul rather not be known, the only thing I can think of is don't put it on the net. The fact that I just made a post on here is already information in a data base. Probably not what I siad, but where I said it, etc. Then again, somebody could be tracking what I said. It's just part of the deal. Part you may have not been informed of, but part none the less.
There is simply no way you can keep name address etc from being avail on the net.
You most certainly can keep your name and address and phone number out of view to the casual Googler, by following the directions in the link I posted about. You can also ask Google to remove the cache from websites containing the info. Several steps are required, it takes hours of work to do it, but it is possible. I know it works, because I've had to do it
It works for google, but does it work for all the other search engines outt there? Duck Duck Go (probably), Yahoo, Bing (probably not) Web crawler, or one of the other two dozen or so search engines out there. Or the savvy person that just does a "who is" from the terminal. I honestly don't know of any way to keep a persons private info private other than staying off the clear (Red) net. You can try, but the only way I know of is to stay (black) encrypted. Once you've put it out there in unencryped form, it's there. If Google has it, everybody else that want's it has it. Nothing on Google, ti's the same for everybody. That's what the https is all about when you buy something on line. Your info is bieing encrypted. In fact that 's a good thing to look for: https/www make sure it's https vice http. If it isn't https dont' say anything you don't want anybody else to know.
Looks like the problem with opting out for me is that you have to give them even more information and basically verify what they already have. And I don't for one minute believe they delete anything, simply remove it from view. But it is still in their database waiting to be stolen.
here is a tip, if you ever have to post your phone number or email address,SPELL out the number
i.e. fivefive five three twosixthree
or with your email address : spell out dotcom
every time you open a power bill or new account with public utilities your personal info may appear
Having been a victim of minor identity theft I learned a lot on various ways they can get info from innocent sources..Thats why we should never post someones contact info on an internet forum unless you spell it out and sometimes do it phonetically
Googled myself, found out that my picture from the Magnolia fire made not only the front page of the Houston Chronical but also ABC World news... interesting.
