Getting ready to make my own Scent Cover.

I'm getting ready to make my own scent cover using Cedar and acorns. Any ideas! I know how to make it but looking for ideas that will improve my batch. Any ideas on how or if I can put something in it to act as a mesquito repellent. I hunt in the Lampassas area!

I just boiled the cedar branches. Then pour it in to two letter bottle. Very strong smell. If you have a press you could press the oil out of it then add a little to water. I think.

Why don't you just buy some cedar cover scent?

Cedar oil should naturally be a repellent for mosquitoes. Anything else you add like eucalyptus or citronella will be opposite what you are trying to do.

You could also try rosemary but unless you have some plants where you hunt, you may be giving yourself away.

Buy the active ingredient for mosquito spray.

Here's what I'd do .... Put my hunting clothes in a plastic bag with some squished up cedar boughs. Tough it out with the skeeters.

What did we do back home on the reservation? We built a smudge fire and sat down wind of it until we stunk of smoke.

Does any of that work? Ain't got a clue. It's just what I would do and have done. Wheter it worked or not is anybody's guess.

Well got my concoction (spelling?) done and it's cooling off. Everyone complained it stinks, but I thought it smelled like Christmas! lol. Anyways, I hope your right about the cedar and mesquitos. I normally tough it out, but they have been really messing with my eyes when I'm sighted in on a deer. Plus, they are as big as 747's, almost could carry you away if 5 landed on you at once. That's no joke either. But I appreciate all the ideas and any in the future.

Wonder of you could add pyrethrin?
