    Convert Euro to shoulder mount???

I've been thinking about taking my son's euro mount buck from last year and possibly surprising him with a wall shoulder mount.

I'm assuming a fresh deer cape would be needed...anything else?

Does anyone have a nice buck cape they want to give?

That would be it. Check with your taxidermist. They usually have spare capes they sell for a reasonable price, and a lot of the times they are already tanned so the mount can be completed quicker.

All you need is a cape. Like mentioned above...most reputable taxis either have a few spares or can get one quickly. If you have any ldps of the deer, that helps to determine the neck size needed for the cape, so its not a shot in the dark.

Good luck and thats a nice buck!

We took a doe my brother shot to a local taxi and he used it to do a shoulder mount with my buck. Our freezer went out that I had my buck in so it ruined its cape.

That's a nice sized deer, so a doe cape is unlikely to be big enough for it.

What's a reasonable charge on a cape for something like this?

It's not only the cape, it's all the work involved in getting the antlers off the european, tanning the hide, doing the mount and it's probably more work for the taxidermist to match antlers A with cape B and make it look like it was a real animal than taking a single animal and doing a mount.

I'd expect the same for more than what you'd pay for a mount.

Wish this would have been posted earlier. I just had a couple of guys bring me skulls to do euro's on and they left the full capes with them. Both were in the 20" range. If I happen on anymore anytime soon, I'll let ya know. You would have to have it tanned, but it'd save you a few $$$$.

Any replacement capes that I've had to buy were $90-110 depending on size and quality.
