    Wounded Warrior Project Anti Gun?

Just food for thought. The article talks about an interview with the CEO of WWP discussing the organizations refusal to co-brand with the firearm and knife industry. Read it before jumping to conclusions.

I dont even know what to say. I understand the claim that more soldiers have died in suicide than killed in the war. They get tons of money either directly or indirectly from guns.

interesting... no opinion really on this, although they've put their name on plenty of other things, and sponsor hunts for warriors... not sure why they have this stance though.

There are other great groups out there that specifically get warriors to the outdoors that I can promise you have no anti gun agenda though, they're actually as pro gun ownership as it gets.

WWP seems to do a lot of good for these guys, so it would be hard to critisize even if there was something to it.

Personally, I have really been debating whether to give to them again this year even before I saw this article. They were part of my holiday giving last year and since then have absolutely barraged me with junk mail. Every week there is some thick envelope with address labels, hat pins, greet cards or some other gimmick trying to guilt me into another donation. It irritates me that they have probably spent a quarter of what I donated in the junk mail they have sent me trying to get more.

Wow. Thats pretty shocking and disapointing. They didn't score all too well on Charity Navigator either ( a website that looks into where charities money goes to and grades them). Here is the link for WWP.

Give and volunteer with confidence by using Charity Navigator's ratings and resources to find highly rated charities that align with your passions and values.

Check out the expenses chart. Of the 70 million they recieved in donations a little over 21 million went into fundraising and just over 4.5 million into admin fees. The Executive Director pulled in $319k in 2011. Which is a 20k raise from what he got in 2010.

$319 is well deserved for the size of organization he runs . . . . candidly you often see those guys comp tied to the ability to raise funds.

In terms of charity navigator and what the organization stands for . . . . that's reason to look to giving to other places that align more with what you believe.

I'm going to give a plug for my buddies...

if you want to give to a wounded warrior organization that's pro gun and pro hunting, check these guys out... they're growing fast, and they specialize in just hunting and fishing for wounded warriors.

I agree that it is a large organization and with the amount of money they are brining in you need to pay enough to get somebody that is qualified to do the job right. On that note.

Check out Doctors Without Borders. They bring in 264 million in donations (three times what WWP does) and the top three highest salaries in that organization don't equal what the WWP exec does. World Vision brings in over 1 billion a year with an exec that makes $379k a year. American Red Cross brings in 3 billion a year with an exec that makes $500k a year.

I want to highlight that I am obviously not against what the WWP is raising money for. I just wish they would put more of the money into the program than into fundraising (36% of their contributions) and admins. As well as being disapointed on their gun stance considering who the organization is representing.

I've only donated to them directly once but buy a lot of their shirts because I like how they fit and it supports a good cause. I'm pretty cynical when it comes to any kind of charity so if I can buy clothes I like and a little goes to a good cause then that's a plus. The gun stance is quite strange though.

WOW!, that floors me.....They dont have a problem taking money from hunts and shooting events, but dont want to be tied anyway to gun or knife companies?????

Theres plenty of other "wounded warrior" charities to give to....I will say i won't ever buy another piece of clothing with their emblem on it, and will be getting rid of the shirts i have now. They won't get another dime from me either. I give to this one every year http://www.riversofrecovery.org/ through my office. I think the smaller ones tend to steer more funds towards what they were meant to go for. I wonder if this was always their stance or they got some higher ups in there that changed things

Just something to think about. If it's true it's disheartening. We need programs and companies like this on our side.I'm a big gun nut and a HUGE supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but I would continue to support them either threw donations or buying their merchandise.I wouldn't care if they were Pro Abortion or Gay rights.I'm not gonna let my Personnel beliefs get in the way of what's important. What they do for Our Soldiers is amazing and that's enough for me to continue to support them. This is all just one mans Opinion and I'm not pushing my way of thinking by no means, but if you choose not to support them now because of this the only ones that are Truly going to suffer from your decision are the Wounded Warriors.

I agree with you that supporting the wounded warriors is the important issue. But if I can still support the wounded troops for thier sacrifices and do this through a charity that more closely aligns with my beliefs than i will definatley take that route. There are plenty of other orginizations and charities that do the exact same (if not more) for our troops. They just don't have a big of a profile as WWP.

Personally WWP will never see another dime from me. I would rather give my money to a charity/orginization that will support my 2nd ammendment rights. And there are plenty of them out there.

But like you said, I'm not trying to force my opinion on anyone. Just saying what I'll be doing.
