Ever been rear ended? How'd it turn out?

Well I was the lucky victim of an unattentive 20yr old driver on black Friday and boy did he cause an accident! (better? Lol) I was at a light when out of no where BAMB I was smashed from the back.... No tire screeching brakes just full force in a 50mph zone. Needless to say my truck is done! Bent the frame straight down and my trailer hitch is touching the ground, buckled the wheel wells froward and blew some of the dash out! I felt some back pain so took a ride to the ER, just muscle strain and **** is my neck sore! I went back to the doctors about my neck just to have it on paper that it was also a related injury. Other than that I am feeling pretty good. Just down about my truck! It was a 2003 f150 extended cab, I bought it brand new in 03 for about $27000. I take pride in my vehicles, maintain them well and consider them an investment. I can only imagine what they are going to offer me and am sure it will be no where near what I have into it. I just don't think it's fair that because he wasn't paying attention and hit me that I have to be ok with getting an amount that will only buy me a vehicle of "like" year and mileage... I feel like now I have to take on some used junk that I have no idea how it was cared for or drive or what happened in it!!
I called a few lawyers but they are just interested in how bad I was injured, seeing thier dr, and me knowing they get 40% of pain and suffering AND MEDICAL?! Wtfudge I would expect them to pay any medical anyways.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiance with this type of situation. Maybe what to expect and what to look out for?

    Thanks for the input guys.

First thing I'd do is change the wording in the subject line of this thread, and first sentence a bit.

Back in '99, Truck A rear ended truck B knocking them into me, then truck A tried to run! I saw em coming so i took off and boxed them into the wall. Truck B was totaled. My dual exhaust hanging out the back was shoved forward screwing up all exhaust even headers. Replaced rear bumper. Replaced all exhaust. Frame and alignment all tested good. Their landscaping company insurance tried to say 5 days of rental car max. Had to fight a bit on the phone but they finally picked up the extra days. Turned out OK.

I had a bad wreck three years ago on black friday. My truck was totaled along with my trailer and two atvs. I handled my own case and never took the insurance companies first offer. They will low ball you and wear you out. I just kept telling them that my back hurt and that I was under doctors care. I still have back pain but its just comes and goes. The longer you wait to settle, the better it will be for you.

Go get your neck checked out by a specialist..whiplash can show up years down the road. See what they offer you first.

My wife was hit by a red light runner and rolled her car and totaled it. We had just bought the vehicle used 3 months prior. The driver of the other vehicle was insured through progressive and it was a pain to get a fair amount for her car. They valued it $1500 lower than I paid for it, and would not budge. I sent then comps and showed what the value really was, and they said my comps were from too far away. They sent me the comps they used and I replied how different the vehicles were and how our vehicle was worth more. My wife got tired of playing the game, so I went face to face to meet the adjuster and turned over my hand and told them that I bought the car for X amount and would not take any less.
They accepted that offer on the spot so I know I could have gotten a little more, but that is life.
Good luck, don't quit! You know what your vehicle is worth, don't accept anything less! Play the game better than they do!

I took a big hit up the backside while sitting at a red light from a lady who must have been texting considering the force of the impact.

Neck hurt for a while and it sucked driving a compact rental but it worked out in the end. My bumper had a pre-existing dent in it so I was actually glad I got it repaired courtesy the other driver's insurance.

Your impact sounds worse than mine. Like others have said, pay close attention to that neck injury.

                              Good luck.
