    Lost a good boar.

Reading the tracking do's and don'ts I have a tracking scenario for you. I shot a good boar the other evening from about 40 yards and about 15 feet up a stand. I felt good about the shot and would say it was perfect. I didn't get a pass through and could see almost half of the arrow in his chest as he ran off. I found the broken arrow about 50 yards away with blood on it to the vanes. No gut shot smell. We waited about 15 minutes before taking up the trail. We followed nickel size drops for about 300 yds and lost the trail in the river. Alive or dead?

He's probably dead. Some times it takes a few days for the buzzards to find. They like to let it soft'n up before they come to it. Especially in cooler weather.
    Keep on Killing All Pigs.

I would have waited several hours and let him lay down to die

You likely pushed him if only waiting 15 minutes

I was told a hog will not lay down and die. I was told they run until dead or shake it off.

Dead would be my guess. I agree with he was probably being pushed. (Personaly) if I dont find any animal within 100 yrds, I back out.

I've found a dozen or so bedded down after letting them lay for an hour or two. All were weak enough and disoriented enough to put a second shot in and finish what I started

I have come up on a pig before that was still alive and had certainly been laying down.

However all the other ones Ive shot seem to have run till they died or gotten away. Once even found a piece of lung the size of your fist a 1/4 mile from the shot. Never found the pig

Hate that you couldnt find him, pigs are very tough critters. Guess it wasnt a "perfect" shot or he wouldnt have gone 50 yds, but was probably still a lethal shot. I would imagine he is dead somewhere. Only good thing about pigs is that there are plenty to shoot so go out and whack another one.

If the shot is perfect, I would say he's dead...... I would strongly advise to wait longer than 15 minutes next time especially with a big boar

I guess not. When I found the arrow broken with about 10 inches of it still in him I figured he was hit hard and in the vitals and we would find him soon. I shot him with a Magnus Buzzcut.

No doubt you hit him hard, and the Buzzcut is a good broadhead. Those suckers are freakin tough and even a well placed shot isnt always lethal. I try to shoot all mine in the earhole. If you drive a shaft down the ear canal he is dead on the spot.

Shoot have been shooting a Rage or a (enter your broadhead choice here ) Sorry, couldn't resist. .
Sometimes where the arrow hits isn't actualy where you think did due to the animal turning and the fletching end flopping around while they run. It is sometimes a game of inches.
