Reading the tracking do's and don'ts I have a tracking scenario for you. I shot a good boar the other evening from about 40 yards and about 15 feet up a stand. I felt good about the shot and would say it was perfect. I didn't get a pass through and could see almost half of the arrow in his chest as he ran off. I found the broken arrow about 50 yards away with blood on it to the vanes. No gut shot smell. We waited about 15 minutes before taking up the trail. We followed nickel size drops for about 300 yds and lost the trail in the river. Alive or dead?

However all the other ones Ive shot seem to have run till they died or gotten away. Once even found a piece of lung the size of your fist a 1/4 mile from the shot. Never found the pig

Hate that you couldnt find him, pigs are very tough critters. Guess it wasnt a "perfect" shot or he wouldnt have gone 50 yds, but was probably still a lethal shot. I would imagine he is dead somewhere. Only good thing about pigs is that there are plenty to shoot so go out and whack another one.
