    Four stages of a hunter

I see a lot of different opinions on these threads. I think it might put into perspective where different people are in their hunting career. I've been through all four and bounce back between 3 and 4. Where do you fall?

    1. Love to shoot (cans, targets...)
    2. Killing ( brown it's down, bucks look huge but shrink a little as you walk up)
    3. Trophy hunter ( hold off unless its bigger than what you have on the wall)
    4. Steward ( you like to get other people involved in the sport, put them on animals you've seen etc...)

A person can be in several different stages of hunting at once.

As a dove hunter, it's all about getting my limit. I'm the exact opposite with deer. I'm a trophy hunter and don't care to kill a buck unless its either a cull or something I'd shoulder mount.

I also enjoy guiding hunters to deer and other game, and get a pretty big kick outta doing it

I am personally at 2 with a bow since I do not have a bow kill under my belt and am at a 4 with a gun even though I only have a few gun kills. The most fun I have is hunting with my nephews and my sons are just getting to the hunting age which has me pumped to take them.

Depends on the year for me. If the freezer is empty, #2. if its full, #3, but Always #4 when it comes to my boys.

I bounce back and forth between 2-3. If it's early season I am so pumped to shoot deer I just want to get one down, so either the first buck I see thats legal or the first good size doe I see is going down. If I still have buck tags left during rut, I will pass a lot of bucks until I see one thats bigger than the last. My step dad on the other hand has seemed to be stuck at number four. Even though he's already shot 2 bucks this year, he takes my mom hunting without even taking his bow with him. Can't hardly even get him to go hog hunting without doing the same thing in the offseason.

Go back between 3 and 4 myself.
Get just as excited putting someone else on a kill as if it were me doing the killing.

I'm basically a 3 with an *. I try to increase the size of the buck I take from a particular place each time. Can't compare wt bucks from the Hill Country with South Texas or Iowa bucks, so I make sure I compare apples to apples.

I guess I am a #1 and #4. I love stump shooting with my longbow and 22s. Have not shot a deer in a year or two that was not injured. have not shot any this year but Ive put two kids on their first and my kids have hunted. I do bird hunt and shoot all I can.

Change a few words and I think that it applies for fisherman also.

                        I think I'm a 4.5. I'm just not mad at deer anymore.

I'm more management minded than I ever have been, even on the 200 ac. property I lease.
And I love to get people involved.

#5. Too old and lazy to shoot them because it becomes work and interferes with my retirement nap.
