Bought. 22-250 few months back and love it. Flat shooting no recoil and has thumped everything we have shot with it. My 11 yr old shot his first buck dressed at 125 few day ago hit in shoulder maybe ran 40 yds.

For hill country 300 RUM for sure!! Those 100 yards shots are killer.... As some people would say!! 223 is cheap! I shoot deer all day Long with .204 and .223 and sometimes .220 swift. 243 is a good choice also! Do NOT need anything bigger than those! Don't try and compensate for bad aim and have to go with a big gun!

My first gun was a .243 I shot my first deer with it, lots of varmits, heck the hardest thing to hit with it were the crows. My dad bought it used for around $100 back 35 years ago, still has the same beat up Gibson scope that's missing the elevation/windage caps and still shoots MOA. I'm confident it can take out a hill country deer at 200 yards, but I'd never turn down an excuse to add a gun to the collection.

I have a 22-250 700 vsf that is an absolute tack driver! Looking at a new barrel for my encore in 6br or 6.5-284.

22-250 has dropped everything I have shot with it in south texas and the Savage is an absolute tackdriver!

My buddy shot a big bodied 7pt a couple weekends ago with his Sako 30-06. Shoulder shot him with a 150gr bullet, totally destroyed one shoulder. The 30-06 may be a good caliber, but after seeing that, there isn't any way I'd want to shoot one here in Texas, just too big IMHO. I like the 22-250, .260, 6.5x55, etc... All soft shooters and great Texas rounds. My son's first deer rifle will be a Tikka Hunter in .243. I like the .243 for light recoil, flat shooting, good for varmits to anything walking in the state of Texas, cheap and readily available ammo, etc....

The .257 is a great round but its expensive to shoot. I'd personally lean toward something less expensive to shoot, but its a great round if all your doing with it is hunting.

I killed two deer this year with the same gun. Very impressed to say the least. 6.5 Creedmoore is a sweet shooting gun.
