Ok, so this started in 2005. Explains why I have never heard of it. Wife seems to want to do it. I'm not sure I'm a fan, but I guess we'll see

My 9 year old asked to call home from the ranch on the day after thanksgiving. I asked why, he said he wanted to see if Bonzo came back. bonzo is our elf on a shelf. It is a wonderful thing that they really get into. If you have a young child, get one. You will have years of magic in your house.

I think it pretty cool, to bad my son is to old now. He ask if Santa is real the last 3 years and we told him if you don't think so then don"t write him a letter see what happens. He still writes his letter to humor us I think.

I want to do this ... Do they sell the elf at local stores, or do you have to order it? I think my kids would really get into it, they are 5 & 3.

Eli will be making his debut Dec. 1.

@ Barbie I think most Hallmark, Walmart, Target, etc. type stores have them. It is fun for the kids.

                    Thanks we'll check today.
                    I think we'll start the 1st too.
How did yall introduce it to the kids? I've seen it before in an article I think. Don't you move it at night and he reports to Santa?

Barbie. There is a story that comes with it. It explains his (the elfs) existence. If I remember correct. And yes, u move it each night. If you forget then u make up clever excuses. Like the storms up north were too bad too fly thru, or he was scared of the coyotes, or maybe he took the night off because you were such a good kid yesterday, etc. That's part of the parents fun. Lol.

First time I had the box with a note by the door. I knocked and ran back into the backyard. Kids opened it and it went from there. Mine comes back tonight. Kids are really looking forward to it

Last year, Ringo was too much of a nuisance that he was given a pink slip. Enter Red.

                            heres Elfie!

thats a pretty good one with him tied up.. me and the wife are strecthing it this year. our son is 8 and somehow it still works. i just wonder what kind of influence it will have when the kids finally realize its been one huge lie! lol... talk about a your potential ultimate backfire! they might need therapy, oh well, it works for now! except we are running out of space in the camper we are living in, sure wish the house would get finished!
Lol that would be challenging to do in a camper.

It has helped in our house, too. I just can never remember to move Jeriff (that is the name my boy came up with).

Man, forget all that jazz u screaming. I watched this horror film when I was a kid about dolls. I'm done after that. Just the thought of me moving this stupid little elf only to wake up knowing that my wife moved it without letting me know is enuff for my black arse to move clear across the county.

Elves, fairies, and garden gnomes is something I will have no part in.
