    Looking for a good riflesmith

I'm thinking about changing my barrel out for a good heavy bull barrel with a brake on it. Know any south of Houston area? Btw, Remington 721 in 30-06. Also, if you have any info on this gun I'd appreciate it. I've had it for a while, just now thought about fixing it up. Thanks!

Give Pete a call. Google Precision Barrel Works and you should find his contact info. His shop is in Hempstead.

you sure you want to do a conversion on that gun,, its starting to gain a fair amount of collector intrest.... its getting older and hasn't been made in several years....just something to think about

Well that's another reason I came here, I've had it for several years and the only thing I know about it is, every time I pull the trigger it goes boom! And usually hits what I'm aiming for. I got it used and it had a HS precision stock on it so I'm not sure if its been "modified" or not.

In that case I'd do something with it.

the Rem 721 pre-dates the 700 and came out in the 1950's

that HS stock was definitely added later and likely modified

My reason for modifying is, I wanted to do some long distance shooting and this is the only big caliber rifle I have. I guess I need to figure out if I just need to sell this one and buy a 700.

do a search on long throating the 30-06,,, it delivers some very impressive velocities,,, i used to work part time in a gun shop in beaumont,, an older and very knowledgeable semi retired gun smith worked with me there,,,, thats were i first learned about it... if the guns very rough it wont make much difference if you alter it,, if its in pretty good shape,, you have a choice to make,,, me i would by another gun,,,,

the 06 has been shooting targets at 1000 yards probably longer than anything else the right loads and bullets can make a huge difference, if you dont hand load you should start

If it were me I would just keep the 721 like it is. Then I would buy a used 700 action and build one from there. You won't be out that much money in the long run.
