    Took my son shooting yesterday

Took my 7 year old to the range yesterday for a little target shooting. 30yrd range with my 17hmr. He did great! Think it may be time for a pig hunt.

Love them 17's I have the marlin thumb hole and it drives tacks all day long. Pigs won't stand a chance against it. That's my favorite gun to shoot for just tinkering around and hunting small game like rabbits and some piggys.

Yeah the 17 is great. I think for now it is going to be his go to gun for pigs. When we were downat the ranch in June, I tried him with 22-250, but he didn't like the noise at all. I had ear plugs and ear muffs on him. I took him with me dove hunting in September and he had a great time. Asked him about the noise from my 12 gauge and he said it didn't really bother him. When we got to the range yesterday, it was packed. I could tell he was nervous about all the firing. We talked about it for a few minutes, went over the range rules, and then got to it. After his 1st shot, a cannon could have went off next to him and he wouldn't have cared. He behaved better than a lot of adults on a gun range, listened to all my coaching, and had a great time.

Where do you shoot? Been looking for a place down this way to take my daughter.
                Thanks

Alpine Gun Range. Its only 15 minutes or so from Midlothian.

I was talking to a buddy of mine today, and he offered to let me borrow his Circuit Judge rifle for my son to shoot. I have seen the gun, but have never shot it. If I remember right, the gun is not very long, so I don't think it will be to big for my 7 yr old. My question is how is the recoil using the 45LC? I think this may be a better option for pigs out to 30-40 yards. I have killed many pigs with the 17hmr, but they have all been ear shots. What say the GS?

Thank you for teaching the young man the importance of a few simple rules when at the range. You are correct, too many adults either do not understand or just disregard the rules.

If he likes to shoot - check and see if your local 4H has a shooting sports program.

Fine grouping young man! Keep it up.

Good shooting young man! It's awesome to see kids his age learning how to handle guns.

Hopefully we'll be seeing some pictures of dead pigs real soon.

Thanks guys, he really did a great job. Just got to keep him at it, and get some more practice time with his bow.
