    Anyone have a Rem 770?

Anyone have one? Considering this or the 700 BDL. Curious how the 770 is, read some mixed reviews. Considering the 770 cause of cost. Also opinions of 30-06 or 7mm mag?

cant beat the quality of the BDL or ever the ADL. if cost is the reason, go ADL, go to academy and get one NIB for 379. i had a 770 and was able to work up a load to shoot 1" at 100 yard (300WM) but the action felt horrible in comparision with the adl/bdl action

The 770 is cheap slop at best. A buddy showed up with one a few years ago. Junk!!!!! It would be better as a single shot. But Im spoilt to 700s

Got a 770 last weekend at academy with stainless steel barrel in. 243 for my 8 year old son. Action is not smooth but shoots 1" groups with factory ammo and a cheap scope. He shot his first deer with it yesterday. I am pleased. Picked it up for 339.

There are a lot of better made rifles close to that price. I would borrow a rifle and save my money for something better before I bought a 770. Savage makes a couple combos one with a Nikon scope. Ruger makes the new American. Heck BPS had a Browning A-bolt for under $500. Like the others said the action on the 770 is terrible.

I have one that's a .270. The action isnt very good at all as others have said but it still shoots very accurate at 100-200 yards

Mossberg ATR 100 is an excellent rifle for the money. I have a .308 that shoots 1/4" or less. I believe they are made by savage. $299 at academy.

A buddy of mine who's on this site (though I won't call him out) has used a 770 in 7 mag for 9 years or so with the scope it came with. He's taken many deer and hogs with it & uses it almost exclusively. I use a 700, but the 770 ain't too bad I guess. I believe Remington created it for the occasional hunter. It's for the guy who doesn't hunt all the time and isn't going to take great care of his rifle so doesn't need a real nice one. But, like I said, my friend has used his for a long time and used it a lot. He's put it through hell and it still does just fine.

Huh. You must be lucky. Most custom rifles don't even perform that good.

I just bought a Mossberg, and I am really impressed with it. Action is decent, trigger is adjustable, and it shoots good groups out of the box with the scope that came with it. I think Academy was doing a deal on it for like 279. Couldnt pass it up. Got it in 270.

It was rated pretty highly in the budget rifles, where the 770 was passed over.

I'm pretty set on a 700 now. And I'm thinking 7mm mag. Never shot one but for some reason I've always wanted one. From everything I've read they have the knock down of an -06 but faster.

You just huntin locally around (using the term loosely) in Texas? That 7mm mag will do the job no doubt but IMHO it's too much for deer around these parts. As will the .30-06 for sure but I'll tell you I shot a .30-06 for a good while, and gave it to my older sis not long ago, gonna go get me a good .243!

Plenty big enough for deer, and can load up and down depending on game you are huntin! just my .02!

Good luck in making your decision brotha!
