Hard Shell Pecans "VS" Paper Shell Pecans???

Can anybody shed light on why some Pecan trees give paper shell pecans, while others such as mine give hard shell pecans.

Is it something that is done to the tree itself chemically or other wise.??

I was watching the football game awhile ago, and just about had to use a hammer on pecans from my Pecan tree. Somebody please educate me on this one.

Just a different variety. I have always preferred Seedling (at least that us what my parents called them) pecans or Stewarts. Seedlings are a smaller variety and are tough to get into. I have had papershells before but forget what they were like. Any pecan is a good pecan.

just different breeds. you can try to graft some papershell branches onto yours if it is healthy.

I have three trees. Major crop this year. We never pic them up. Mower or squirrels usually get them. If anyone wants they are welcome to come get them. Have small, long, and fat pecans.

Paper shell pecans were a developed species of pecan because they produce a large fruit and the shells are easy to get into. But, personally, I like native and other pecans better than the paper shells. They just seem to taste better.

I had some paper shell pecans yesterday that were given to me. They were very easy to crack and get into "VS" mine but i did notice that mine were sweeter than the paper shell pecans.

              I love pecans.........

You are the 3rd person i have heard say that since i started to ask about one or the other.
