    Imagine this...

Its a nice cool saturday morning and you are out checking cows. Riding along your normal route you've taken for the past 26 years or so and you notice an odd looking cow. In your 26 years of raising cattle and dove hunting this place you have only seen one deer, ever, and that was at least 10 years ago. On this particular morning that one odd looking cow has antlers, nice antlers visible to the naked eye at over 100yds, and 2 does with him. Do you have a gun? Nope...did he present a shot? Yup...do you have a feeder to set up? Nope... What do ya do!?!? Well if it were me I'd dang sure build one real quick! And that's what I plan on doing as soon as my chores are done for the day! I just hope my danged ol adopted stray dog (who has never seen a deer) isn't still chasing them. If so then I would imagine by now the ellis county population just grew by three. Hope everyone has as good a Saturday as I am having! I've got a new property to deer hunt! And its mine!

Here in northern Bastrop County on a farm on which deer haven't been seen in many years, a >110 buck appeared recently. A hen turkey as well, also a first.

I'm thinking the drought has moved them around a bit.

Main chore is done. Got a thanksgiving to attend at 3. Its at dads. I've got a motor and timer, he's got barrel and legs I think. I've got a couple spare pop ups and a ghillie suit so blind is good for this season. Gotta get some corn and should be good. Might sit on ridge in the am and try to figure out how they are moving from a distance before I really scare them off by putting a feeder in their bedroom. .

I got glass on him. I couldn't handle the suspense. Lol. He's a decent 8. Probably around 110. About 16.5" wide. I spotted him from the ridge about 300yds away. I figured that dog ran him off my property at least. They were bedded up and I'm pretty sure I found their trail while glassing. Its a new one I haven't noticed before. Drought theory may be accurate because it comes from a dry creek bed, across my pasture via a ravine (where I jumped them this am), and to one of my tanks. I can brush into the hillside and watch them in the am possibly. Or I might go to my other set and see if any new movement is happening there. With that thought in mind I'm going to open a new thread. Ill get some pics up if I can find him again in the next couple days.

Feeder is up. Took some redneck engineering but its hanging from a tree. Took a bucket, one of my old team roping ropes, silicone, self tapping screws, old fish feeder, old moultree motor, wildgame innov timer, a funnel and spinner kit, and a battery I had at the barn. Corn included I've got 35 bucks in it. Lol. Its almost embarrassing. We shall see how it does. I've had a feeder up in the past for pigs and the cows didn't mess with it. Hopefully they don't this time either. I've got pics but my crackberry won't allow me to post them. Anyone interested in doing the honors?
