Do I need to call Santa ???

It's that time of year again. Whenever the kiddos start acting up (mine are 4 and 6 ), break out the phone and call Santa Claus. It's amazing how they either straighten right up, or simply have a melt down. I took off early today and we are starting to put up Christmas decorations. Anyone else use this old scare tactic ?

What is this elf on the shelve?
My wife was saying she wants to get one for the boys, if it makes them behave for her, then I might give into it.

It's a small elf doll that you put in a location in the house were it looks like he's watching everything going on. Supposedly he flys back to the North Pole at night to report back to Santa. Each morning you put him in a new location, and it is the first thing my kid will look for. It will come with a book, and tells a story about what he does, and you name him.

I didn't let my kids believe in Santa. If we provided for them whether a good year or not they knew it was because of our doing. If they miss behaved we would take a wrapped toy to the toys for tots and let them hand it over, and when that didn't work we took away their Christmas. None of the 5 kids have stepped out of line when we had o do that only once, and that was when they were 8 and now they are 21. Tough love. None of this namby pamby you have been bad but we are still are going to reward you garbage. The kids will remember it well and they will learn actions have consequences. On the Christmas the one lost it all he was an angel. Passed out the gifts and was happy to be included but with no gifts...he knew he had done wrong, but wasn't being a brat or had an attitude. We sat him down later and commended him on his above and beyond behavior.

If you don't train them right from the start don't think you can change them when they are in the teens.

I made a phone call as Santa to a coworkers house one year at her request. It was only Luke the second day of Christmas break for her kids and they were calling every 15 minutes saying he did this or she did that. I got the both of them on the phone and told them I would have their Mom and Dad give the presents that were already under the tree away and that the only thing they would get on Christmas morning was a longer list of chores. She told me they cried at the dinner table when questioned about it and they behaved perfectly the rest of the Christmas season.

I just realized I screwed up. My 5 year old son asked me the other day if I knew Santa's phone number. I told him I didn't. Dang!!
