    AR question

when people build AR 15 by buying the parts and then assembling it, is that a way to circumvent registration? I'm not a big gun enthusiast...i'm a bow hunter!! only have 1 rifle and never use it... but I might be interested in an unregistered rifle...seeing how the election went.

No such thing as registering in Texas.

People do it for fun and you save a little money.

You will have to fill out paperwork even if you buy a stripped lower. Wanna skip the paperwork? Buy from an individual.

          This is correct.

There is no such thing as gun registration in Texas.

When you say "no such thing as gun registration"..... I was under the impression that if you are filling out paperwork to purchase a gun (or a stripped lower) then that is a paper trail to you being the owner.... how is that any different from "registering"?

There is no gun registration in any of the states. The ATF only requires background checks to be done when you fill out a 4473 form. If you're a CHL holder then they don't even do a background check. I believe automatic weapons are registered because you have to have a permit to own one but not semi-auto weapons. I built my own AR because I wanted the experience of building one. I also saved about $300 with what I got. The upper assembly was ordered straight off the internet and I had to fill out the 4473 to get the lower. Neither are "registered".

Because it isn't actively monitored by any government agency. The ATF/Law Enforcement only checks the 4473 forms if the firearm is involved in a crime (shooting, stolen, etc.) Those forms sit at the place of purchase in a filing cabinet just collecting dust. Just because it's in your name doesn't mean anything other than you are the original purchaser. If you sold it to someone else then it's still "in your name" but no one would know except the people involved in the sale. You don't have to report tranfer of arms between individuals who aren't FFL (Federal Firearm License) dealers.

Actually, some states and cities DO require registration separate from the federal background check system. Massachusetts is one : http://www.mass.gov/eopss/firearms-reg-and-laws/. However, THANKFULLY, Texas doesn't care to infringe on 2nd Amendment rights!

About $675. I got the 4 rail hand guard on mine and flat top upper with front sight. I bought a Del-Ton upper and a Rock River lower. Took about an hour to assemble. Just got on You Tube and watched a few videos of assemblies. I went with the 5.56 Nato because it will shoot .223 rounds as well. The .223 chambered barrel will take the 5.56 but I've always heard that the 5.56 will tear up a .223 AR.
