The rut is kicking in pretty hard where I hunt and I'm wanting to get a doe decoy and try to get one rattled in to see the decoy and get into bow range. I plan on either being in a treestand or on a bluff overlooking a big flat with cover to sit in. Anyone used one with good luck and how did you go about it? I've heard put TP on the butt for a tail that flaps in the wind, yay or ney?

I'm still trying to figure out this whole process myself. Tried to rattle several times.... No luck. My decoy ended scaring a doe and that's it. She kept coming back to see it, but hid from it and snorted the whole time. The only thing that's ever worked for me personally, so far, has been doe bleats.

I intend to keep playing with it. I have a close friend who swears by trails end 307. Also, years ago I did rattle in a big buck the first time I tried rattling. So I know it works at times and keep trying it. So something other than doe bleats has worked for me, but doe bleats has worked for me more than anything. They come to the bleat about 75% of the time for me.

I tried this Saturday morning, put doe decoy out with some Franks doe estrous pee on its tail, used some doe bleats and grunts. Had one doe come in and skirt around the decoy, then about 45 min later had a nice 10 pt. come in, he stayed in some brush and spooked before presenting a clear shot for me. This is my first year to try a decoy, so I was a little bummed that it spooked the buck.

Took a doe decoy about two weeks ago and bleeted in a small buck but he stayed about 75 yds away blowing several times. A week later, I used a buck decoy and rattled in a deer, but all I could see was its white tail hopping into the brush about 50-60 yds before it got to me. I decided I wouldn't use it anymore, thinking I'll still bleet and rattle but maybe they will come all the way in and not be scared of the decoy.
