    Question for Mex Hunters?

I am trying to devise a driving route to avoid Nuevo Laredo. I hunt in Tamilipus (sp) 14 miles S on Hwy 2 from whatever the highway is that comes out of Nuevo Laredo. We are 50 miles from the Columbia Bridge and that was the route we took home on Sunday. That route takes us from Freer to Encinal to the Columbia Bridge. My question for you guys that cross at Falcon is how far is it from Houston to the Falcon crossing, and what route do you take from Houston to Falcon. I am willing to drive around Nuevo Laredo to avoid problems, and it always takes 30min to an hour to cross at Nuevo Laredo anyway because of the lines. We drove up and were the only car at Columbia.

FYI - Colombia bridge gets backed up too. More so in the past year. On Thanksgiving it took about 2 hours to cross, still shorter than N.L. One year we decided to come back on New Years Day, the line was almost all the way back to the highway. We spent over 10 hours in line that day. People were pushing their cars to conserve gas. We won't make that mistake again.

BTW - If you start taking that route and are using the toll road be aware the toll road only takes there credit card between 10PM and 6AM. You have to go in that building to fill out the form and give them cash or a credit card to take money from. Your ez-tag won't work even though it is a Texas Toll Road. Also, the Colombia bridge is closed from midnight until 8AM.

We are west of NL so we always cross Colombia, sorry I can't help you on your initial question.

Be safe - I am planning on going back down tomorrow and probably hunting until the 14th or so.....

We cross at Falcon. Leave Corpus, to Kingsville, Riviera, Falfurrias, Hebbronville, back roads to Chihuaha, and cross at Falcon. You're place is probably 45 miles north from Falcon dam with NO ADDITIONAL checkpoints after crossing border and there is a feed store right off highway with clean corn in Guerrero.

For you, at Freer go thru Hebbronville on Hwy 16. It's probably gonna add 2 hrs to your drive

We cross at both points, Falcon and Colombia. Falcon is a great place to cross if you don't mind a little longer drive. We are about 25 miles north of Guerrero, up Hwy 2, right across from here:

I know there are a few others on here that are in the same area.

Directly across Hwy 2 from that gate Buck_wild. Then, about 18 miles west down that county road, right past Penitas and Cerritos. The Rio Salado is our southern border and this county road runs through the north end of our ranch.

I"d go to Freer and turn north to San Antonio and avoid Mexico like the plague!! Have you read the reports lately??? It stinks.. I grew up between Freer and Laredo and used to go to Mexico alone at 13 and 14yrs old... before I got caught by my grandpa... I wouldnt go there now old, mean and loaded with guns!

let us know what's going on over there in ya'lls area, that area is the diet coke of Mex, just one calorie I want to get back there next year. I have to go thru 5 little towns with cops and thats 5 too many. I think the area you mentioned across from La Palma is the safest as long as its daytime while on Highway 2...Good luck guys

One year at Falcon they refused to let me enter with a deer cause the right Ag inspector wasnt there. I had a real hard time that week in Mex with Aduana people, soldiers, and this custom *** that is still working Falcon to this day,and at every point the whole hunting trip, I was just glad to be back..I told them that I refused to return to Mex and they could do with me what they wanted 3 boys with smilin faces rolled out of the pickup and started throwing a football around, they watched us pass the ball for half an hour and then politely asked us to cross and take our deer home....rule of thumb...no hair, meat only..if you want to bring the cape, freeze it rock solid for Falcon, they cant dip, easiest to cross at either Nuevo Laredo, stopping first to dip the cape at the Angadi office, or cross at Miguel Aliman...I never know what to expect at Falcon

I think its against the law to put an unfrozen cape under your seat and then not declare it. Since deer cant swim or walk across the river, this concern about ticks makes lots of good sense to me
