    Need Reloading Help

I know every gun is different, and my new 260 shoots Remington corelokts pretty good.

I am looking for a recipe for anybody loading and shooting 260 Remington. I have already bought Hornady SST 140grain pills. My barrel is a 26" 1:8 twist.

What is giving you the best results? Looking for a place to start.

Loading manuals. start low and work up. I usually start with powders that do a pretty good job of filling the case. Keep the bullet off the lands. You probably already know all this, but I always start with the basics.

Why keep the bullets off the lands? When i work up bolt action loads, I cut a slit in the case neck so it grips the bullet loosely, then chamber a round. Pushes the bullet in so it just lightly touches the lands. Perfect seating depth as long as it still feeds properly.

If you get one seated firm in the lands, you risk a pressure spike if you have not worked up to that charge. A variance of 0.002 can make a difference and I would suggest anyone allow for the slightest variations that can exist in seating bullets.

One concern with pressing a bullet into the case to get a snug fit is the risk of the lands gripping the bullet and pulling it back slightly on extraction. Just be careful and triple check everything to insure safety.

In the case of my .308 the chamber will tolerate the bullet seated further out than the magazine will.

Buy some loading manuals and play around with some loads.
