Best time of year for Exotic Hunt

Since I am at the half way point so far being stationed in TX, figured I have to get jumping on an exotic hunt before I have to really plan return trips to visit family which will leave little, if any, time for hunts. I would like to go chase Axis, doe or cull buck. What times of year are best here in TX, and besides the Diamond C, are there any places that you all would recommend. I would prefer bow since I am looking for animal #2 with it, but not afraid to pull out my Encore either. I will be checking the search function, just seeing if there are any new places out there that haven't been mentioned yet. I'd be willing to go as far as 5 hours from Houston area, and my only requirement is being kid friendly as my 8yr old hunting buddy is coming with me. Thanks GS in advance.

    KJO without a doubt!

If you are looking for horns, the summer time is best. And by that I mean in the dead heat of summer.

Thanks Dren, I appreciate it. I wouldn't mind hunting in the summer at all. Heck, my last whitetail bow hunt I did a month ago had me hunting in the 90's, and last year when I moved here, I was setting stands/feeders in 110....I will look into KJO after I get back from my doing a Veteran's Day thing at my boy school.

Are there any trophy fees at KJO?

No. If you shoot a 24" animal or a 40" animal, it is the same cost.

No hidden fees, trophy fees, or kill fees.

If you are after a doe or cull axis buck, I would go in Jan. or February being that as mentioned the winter coat is better. Also, they tend to hit feeders or feed better after a few freezes and less green vegetation. If you are after a trophy axis buck, then summer time is best for finding a hard horned buck although you run the risk of a tough hunt depending on rainfall. KJO is good as well as the Quatro B.....lots of reviews in the Rate the Day Lease section. Good luck!

Keiths axis doe hunts are $250.00 for 2 days. That includes a doe and 2 hogs. That's $250.00 total, not $250.00 each day. Heading there in just over a month!

Best time for axis is in June, they are just coming out of velvet, they are aggressive, and come to water. How much do you want to spend? If less than a $1000 KJO is a good choice, and if you are looking for a packaged hunt. My preference is a trophy fee type hunt with no pressure to shoot an immature animal
