    Does and Yearlings missing

We haven't been seeing nearly the amount of does and yearlings this year as we have in the past. We have actually told everyone on our place not to kill any does until we start seeing more. We don't even have them on our cameras, below is a picture of one of four fawns we found over the summer dead. We have been seeing alot of yotes the last two years, even during the day. The ranch bordering us is very large and the previous owners used to keep a trapper busy. Our LO has offered a bounty on them but we haven't really persued them yet. My question is do you have to have a trappers liscense to trap, snare or set up trot lines for predators. I'm going to do something on this when the doc clears me to go back working and hunting and would rather be legal. I think I'm going to pick up a good call before going back but I think I can get more with traps and trot lines than calling.

you need a trappers license only if you plan to sell the hides
at least that is how it was long ago

Last years drought might have taking a toll on them also. Kill all predators you see!!!

I think as long as your just hunting them and not selling the hides you don't need a trappers license. But check the Outdoor annual to be sure...

And your avatar gets me. The ole .45 would be barking big time!! And I'd be crapping my pants really bad...

We had them bad two years ago, then the LO added 6 Donkeys to his cattle, and we are hardly hearing them any more. When we had them bad we never saw Does, and when the rut kicked in we never saw anything. Now we are seeing more does and yearlings and the bucks are sticking around. Now if we could get rid of the Acorns we would be in great shape.

We were hammered by the drought in Brady. Very few mature doe but a lot of bucks.

Hope its not because of the MEAT IS MEAT type of hunters that will shoot whatever moves

Same here in Lavaca co. Seeing just a few doe on trail cam. Last year we were covered up. I really can't say why, this is only my second year on the place, its a small 350 acre pasture and I'm in a part of the county known to be a bit lower in overall numbers.

I do feel certain that the large numbers we saw last year was from the drought. With very limited hunting to my south and east I know we were drawing deer from quite some distance last year.

What is a trot line for predators? We have seen a ton more fawns this years vs. last year. We snare predators and do not sell the hides, I believe all you need is a hunting license.

Just like you set a line for gators, meat on a hook high enough they have to jump for it. The place we lease is 2,000 acres and one ranch we border is 21,000 acres with 10 hunters and the other is 10,000 acres not sure how many hunts it. The drought was bad this year but we fed all year and the ponds never ran dry. There are no just meat hunters we have improved the herd by three fold and are seeing some good bucks. We only have two gun hunters on our place everyone else is bow only.

Interesting. Do you use like a big 10/0 treble hook? Make your own like the trappers on Swamp People? What do you use for a line? 550 Paracord?

Nah just a big treble with a steel leader and I'm going to try 60lb test braided lines anchored to a tree.
