    Federal Fusion 62gr .223 Review

Took my AR out this morning and wanted to shoot something with the Fusion 223 round as the kids are going to be using them. Had planned on a ~80yd shot but it didn't work out that way. Had an 8pt come in and he ended up walking within 20yds.

I shot him slightly quartering away from a 25ft lock on behind the near should and it exited through the far shoulder low. It just missed the main bone. Exit hole was about 1/2" and the entrance was just about caliber sized. The deer ran about 15yds.

I was impressed as I figured at that distance the bullet would come apart but after dressing the deer out it obviously did not. The heart was gone and lungs were almost liquified. This was out of an 18" SPR. I'll tell ya, I was impressed. Makes me seriously reconsider getting stomped everytime I pull the trigger. Thumbs up as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, but it's a 55gr. Bet it will still eat 'em up.

I have been wondering about to. I was going to let my sister use my 5.56 AR . This year , I built one in .300 Blackout and can't wait to see what it dose . Using 110 gr. V-Max with H110 19.1g . (This will have to wait till after the Luguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge bow hunt . )

I killed a lot of hogs with em and a few coyotes in .243

Never dropped and animal in its tracks. Killed em, but all ran. I liked the price though and they shot good. I switched my wife back over to the black box win. makes.

They get good reviews as a defensive round as well.

Awesome review! I had heard many good things so I picked up 160 rounds of 62 grain in 223 the other day. That ought to last me awhile.

I've got a lot of 55 gr sp and would like to have something with a little more weight to it that holds together for pigs. Might have to give these a try.

Went back out and shot a 140lb sow through both front shoulders at 60yds. Broke both shoulders and bullet exited. She went about 24".........straight down.

I use the Federal Tactical Bonded 62gr (LE223T3) which is our duty rounds for the AR. All the deer that I have shot with a rifle the last four years has been with that round. Most have been quartering away and all exited with about a .50 caliber hole. None have run more than about 20 yards. These were all behind the shoulder and no neck or ear hole shots.

I am not sure what the difference, if any, is between the tactical bonded and Fusion ammo but they both sound like they stay intact without fragmenting.

I believe I read somewhere that they are the same bullet.
