I don't know what to do??

This is the quandary I find myself in this weekend. First of all I am a high school football coach and our last game is this Friday. Last week our head coach told us that we will not be working the weekend after our last game. So I planned on going hunting since it has been a month since I've been to the lease. Yesterday he tells us he wants us to work on Saturday to get things cleaned up and ready for off season to start. Yes it irritated me but he is the boss. I have lots of things to do at the lease. I need to move cameras and put up a new fence around my feeder, and there are a few new bucks on the game cam that my father in law picked up last weekend. Now I can not decide if I should blow off hunting this weekend or drive the five hours to the lease Saturday afternoon and hunt Sunday morning and evening, getting home late Sunday night. Its is a long way to drive and a lot of gas to only hunt one day. I can not decide what to do??? What do you think?

I'd say go, I drive down on Saturday morning and come back Saturday night sometimes...

If you go, you won't see anything. If you don't go, there will be a 7 year old double drop 210" buck on your camera in the morning and evening under your feeder for 45 minutes each time.

Yup! I say go. But, sure is going to be windy! Anything can happen this time of year.

Blow off work and go hunting, I dont do well with last minute changes to my work schedule.

Yep. "Sorry Boss, I already made plans when you told me that we weren't working this weekend."

Talk to your HC, explain to him the situation. He told you last week yall would be off, now he wants you to work but you already made plans. I am sure he wont care if you take off to the lease after the ball game. Just be up front with him.

I would tell him that you already made plans, let him know what the plans are, offer to stay late Some during the week to get ready for offseason/clean up after workouts, and see if he is on with that.

I understand your situation perfectly. I coached for 21 years and have had this happen more times than I could count. You don't just talk to your HC and have it smooth over in time. Most head coaches don't care about your hunting or the situatuion. I say work Saturday morning and leave as soon as you can after. This will save you all the headaches that will be caused by some of these suggestions. Good luck and Go get a good one.

Sorry to say this but you need to work Saturday. As for the lease; 5 hrs one way is a long drive. It’s only going to be worth the trip if you’re happy with spending one day outdoors. Whether it’s hunting or working on fence, if you have any concerns about going I would save the money and wait one week.
