I was driving into the state waterfowl refuge during duck season, and pulled to the side of the levee road (about 1 1/2 trucks wide) to let a Honda SUV pass the other way. I thought they might be hunters, asked "how's it going" and found out they were geocaching on the waterfowl refuge- during the season. I guess DFG let 'em in somehow.

Seems like a waste of gas to me to drive all over looking for stuff, but they might think my spending $$$ to try and kill ducks was too, who knows?

We love it! My son loves the cheap crap in them and my wife and I love finding new places. Plus having something we can all do outdoors is a HUGE bonus.
There are millions of geocaches worldwide, just waiting for you to find them. There are probably even some within walking distance of where you are right now. Visit Geocaching.com to see just how many geocaches are nearby and to learn how to start finding them.

yeah to each is own i guess...i guess some people like me enjoy being in the outdoors i'm with you Ibbf...thought it would be a cool way to spend time with my family...

now i agree, doing it on a refuge during duck season isn't too smart

dont worry dale...i had no idea till about 2 hours ago either...here is the definition on the website...

"Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache."

basically this website contains gps coordinates/clues to a tupperware/ammo box/dry box with a logbook and sometimes little "treasures"...you put the coordinates into your gps and go search for it...sign the log book, take a treasure, and leave a treasure of yours...

                            Zeus's B-Hole??

Found some col stuff around my neighborhood by geocaching.

if Im stuck at home and TBH is slow, I will look on the geocaching site to see if anythings new. Nothing competitive.

Nothing interesting in the caches, but found out there is a waterfall near my house that I didn't know about and some cool trails around the lake.

I have done a little of it myself. I had an absolute blast. I haven't done it in a couple of years after i found all the ones in the area. I enjoyed signing the registries and reading where other people were from. I couldn't agree more with the fact it gets the kids out and they love it. I mean it is a real treasure hunt! Who couldn't love it?
